What is the best protocol for managing a deceased individual/couple?

NOTE: NetSuite provides multiple solutions. The recommended solution may not be optimal for your specific use case.

Answer

Consider adding a custom field to your customer record to track deceased (make it a checkbox).

Also mark the constituent "inactive."

Ensure that deceased constituents are excluded from any reports or saved searches. This is especially critical for saved searches used to generate mailing, email lists or business processes where deceased individuals should be excluded.

For couples, record each constituent as deceased & inactive. If you are using sub customer house holding, mark the household parent constituent record as inactive.

Context

In NetSuite, when you mark a customer inactive, this means this customer will no longer appear on customer, prospect or lead list unless you check the Show Inactives box at the bottom of the list page. This customer's name will also no longer appear in other dropdown lists containing customers, and the customer will no longer have access to NetSuite or be able to sign into your Web store.
