Overview

When your account is provisioned, you receive the basic NetSuite.org grant. It is not configured for any specific use case. You will need to complete a number of tasks to get NetSuite ready for use.

Configuration Steps

Configuration steps do not have to be completed in any particular order, though in general you will want to follow the NetSuite ONE methodology that provides a complete blueprint for every aspect of an implementation. The ONE methodology can be accessed by logging into your NetSuite account, clicking on the "support" tab and then clicking on the ONE Methodology link. For smaller grantees the ONE methodology may be overkill, but should be reviewed none the less.

  1. Chart of Accounts. You will need to set up a chart of accounts whether you plan to use NetSuite for accounting or not. Any of the default charts of accounts will be sufficient for organizations not using NetSuite for accounting. For charities, the SuiteDonor bundle includes the UCOA unified chart of accounts for nonprofits. You would select a blank chart of accounts during fist login and import the UCOA chart of accounts after installing the Suitedonor bundle.
  2. Enable features. NetSuite ships with a lot of capabilities, but they are not necessarily turned on by default. For example if you need to manage grants, you'll need to turn on the projects feature. Features can be enabled by navigating to Setup tab >> Company >> Enable Features.
  3. Upload data. You'll need to import your data into NetSuite.
